Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma have reportedly killed a notorious bandits leader, Sani Rusu, along with several of his foot soldiers during a gunfight in Bamamu village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, shared the details in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the encounter occurred on Saturday, January 4. During the clash, the troops neutralized the criminals and destroyed their hideouts.
The statement further disclosed that, on the same day, troops carried out an ambush operation in response to credible intelligence on terrorist activities at Kwanar Jollof in the Shinkafi LGA.
The ambush resulted in the neutralization of additional terrorists, while others sustained fatal injuries.
The operation also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.
Additionally, the statement mentioned a separate operation where the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted airstrikes on December 30, 2024, targeting terrorists gathering between Fakai and Kware in Shinkafi LGA.
“This airstrike was launched in response to intelligence indicating that terrorists led by Bello Turji had convened a meeting in the area,” the statement read.
The troops continued their operations with a follow-up airstrike on January 2, 2025, in the Maikaman Rini area of Sububu Forest, supporting Operation Fansan Yamma ground troops targeting the camp of terrorist kingpin Ibrahim Chumo.
Finally, the troops executed offensive operations against Bello Turji’s camp in the Chida area of Shinkafi on January 5, 2025.
