Troops of Operation Hadin Kai under the Multinational Joint Task Force have successfully thwarted an attempted attack by suspected Islamic State of West Africa Province militants along the Magumeri-Maiduguri road in Borno State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Chief Military Information Officer of the MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osaba, confirmed that the troops had launched a tactical ambush, intercepting the insurgents before they could carry out their attack.
“The troops executed a well-coordinated ambush, neutralizing the threat before the terrorists could harm innocent civilians,” said Osaba.
He explained that the troops had strategically positioned themselves along the militants’ route, catching them off guard as they emerged from a forested area on motorcycles.
“Upon sighting the troops, the terrorists tried to escape but were met with a heavy barrage of gunfire,” Osaba said, adding that the militants were forced to abandon their weapons and motorcycles, effectively derailing their plans to cause further unrest in the region.
Recovered from the scene were two AK-47 rifles, 51 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two magazines, 61 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, and several illegal substances, including marijuana and Tramadol.
