Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0 to win the Champions League for the first time in their history and complete the treble.
Rodrigo scored the only goal of the game in which Inter frustrated City and also had very close chances to win.
It was the second Champions League final held in Turkey – the first being Liverpool’s famous comeback victory over AC Milan at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in 2005.
City, in their 2022/2023 football season have won the Premiere League, the FA Cup and now, the UEFA Champions League.
Tweeps, ranging from fans, to critics and even other leagues have taken to Twitter to express their opinions concerning City’s historic win:
@Premiereleague were the first to congratulate City as they tweeted, “Congratulations 👏”
@idqtiii, an Inter Milan fan took the win personal as he criticized City tweeting, “For the first time in your history, you have won the Champions League.
“Your present is our past, we are Inter Milan!
Playing luck with you little one😂”
It was a mixed grill of reactions from @ghalebaqrabawii as he tweeted, “Bravo Inter.. A beautiful final imposition, despite most expectations (including me) that it would be an easy title for City.. Poor performance today and lack of success deprived them of the title
“Manchester City was on a floor and the others were on a floor this season, and the suffering of a match does not make us forget that .. a great historical triple deserved 👏👏
“Congratulations to the Manchester City fans.. I will return to you the Inter fans.”
@BoyfroTheIsland had nothing but praises for Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, he tweeted, “Finally, Messi fanboys can’t say Guardiola can’t win UCL without him. It was never about Messi. It was always Pep. Guardiola is brilliant, no doubt, but ofc, UCL is the hardest competition, and anything can happen. So there was also never the case of the unbeatable City, what that ‘genius’ Rooney talked about. Real in the first leg vs City, and now Inter – they fought long and well – showed that City could be beaten. But for that, you need to have great preparation and impeccable execution on the pitch. Inter didn’t manage at the end.”
It was about proving a point for @donpanacio, as he maintained that Man City are the best team in Europe, “Finally!!!! Manchester City have proven themselves!!
No more talk like “you have to win Champions League”
“They have won the treble!!!
They are the best team in Europe and the best team ever known in EPL!!!
All records broken.”
