Tammy Abraham’s late goal secured a dramatic 2-1 victory for AC Milan over Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League clash at the San Siro on Wednesday, extending the Italian side’s winning streak to four matches.
Abraham’s decisive strike in the 87th minute was a harsh setback for the Serbian team, who had battled back from a deficit and appeared poised to grab a winner.
The result lifted Milan to 12th place with 12 points, while Red Star languished in 31st with three points.
With the top eight teams earning automatic qualification to the round of 16, Milan aimed to stay in contention but faced an early scare.
Andrija Maksimovic nearly gave Red Star the lead in the 18th minute, his volley rattling the crossbar.
Galvanized by the near-miss, the hosts stepped up their game but were forced to adjust their lineup. Ruben Loftus-Cheek exited due to injury, replaced by Samuel Chukwueze, and another blow came when Alvaro Morata sustained an injury, bringing Abraham into the fray.
Rafael Leao broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with a moment of brilliance, expertly controlling a long pass from Youssouf Fofana and lifting the ball into the top corner with his second touch.
Red Star, however, struck back in the 67th minute through Nemanja Radonjic. Known for his brace in their 5-1 comeback win over Stuttgart, Radonjic unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box that left Mike Maignan helpless.
The visitors continued to press, with Mirko Ivanic coming close but dragging his effort wide.
Milan ultimately had the last word when Abraham capitalized on a chaotic scramble following a set piece, hammering the ball home to seal the win.
