Students at the University of Ibadan erupted into protest shortly after learning that campus electricity would be limited to just 10 hours per day.
Beginning from the Zik-Indy Axis, their anger reverberated through the darkness as they marched towards the main campus, vocally opposing the management’s decision.
Moving past Bello Hall towards Kuti Hall and Trenchard Hall, the crowd called for more students to join their cause against the school administration.
The noise and chants of the protesting students echoed across the campus.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the school management nor government officials have issued a statement regarding the incident.
This protest echoes previous actions by students at UI, notably in 2011 when academic and commercial activities were brought to a standstill due to protests over inadequate power supply.
Again in 2012, and in 2016, students mobilized, forcefully closing gates and streets to demand improved electricity and water services.
