The University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital’s branch of the Association of Resident Doctors has joined the ongoing nationwide strike initiated by the union’s national leadership.
This situation was confirmed by the Kwara State Chairman of the association at the teaching hospital, Dr. M.J. Yusuf, Ilorin on Tuesday.
The strike, which commenced on Monday, is in response to the prolonged captivity of two of their members, who have been held by kidnappers for nearly eight months.
Originally, three doctors were abducted, but one was released, leaving two still in captivity.
Yusuf explained that the doctors, out of concern for their patients, reported to work on Monday to hand over their duties to the consultants before fully withdrawing from their roles in accordance with the national directive.
“We have now stayed away from duty in compliance with the directive from the national headquarters,” he stated.
The strike is expected to last for two weeks as part of their ongoing efforts to push the federal government to take decisive action and secure the release of the abducted doctors.
