The United Kingdom government has initiated a policy aimed at preventing Nigerian and other international students from being accompanied by their families when coming to the country.
According to a report that will be presented on Thursday, the move became essential since the official figures for net migration increased by an astounding one million.
In order to stop the number from rising and to stay ahead of the news, ministers would crack down on immigration by forbidding foreign students from bringing their families to the UK.
According to The Sun UK, a ban announcement is expected to be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The restriction would affect all students registering for Master’s degrees and other postgraduate degrees because they would no longer be allowed to bring their family to the UK. However, Ph.D. students who are regarded to be highly skilled would be excluded from the prohibition.
In 2022, foreign students brought 135,788 relatives to the UK, a ninefold increase from 2019.
In 2022, more than 59,000 students from Nigeria and over 61,000 family members arrived.
