The United Nations Development Programme has assessed Yobe State’s efforts in post-Boko Haram insurgency reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery projects, offering commendation for their quality.
Mohamed Yahya, the UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, expressed this positive evaluation during a visit to Damaturu, the state capital, on Tuesday.
The UNDP’s assessment highlighted Yobe State’s achievements in health and education reconstruction and recovery projects, recognizing the substantial progress made in these areas.
In particular, the 375-bed capacity Maternity and Child Healthcare Complex, which was reconstructed under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration, stood out as a notable example of the state’s commitment to post-conflict recovery.
This recognition from the UNDP underscores Yobe State’s dedication to rebuilding and revitalizing essential sectors, such as healthcare and education, in the aftermath of the Boko Haram insurgency.
It serves as an acknowledgment of the state’s steadfast efforts to restore normalcy and improve the lives of its citizens.
“The two pillars of Governor Buni’s development agenda, investing in health and education are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals Programme.
“The investment in the health sector is pretty impressive and Yobe state is back on the path of development after the devastation by the insurgency” the UNDP representative said.
Yahya expressed satisfaction with the rate at which the state is catching up with the Sustainable Development Goals.
“I am quite impressed with the potential of the facilities dealing with maternal and childcare challenges,” Yahya said.
