A former Harvard Medical School professor and fertility doctor, Dr. Merle Berger, has been accused of using his own sperm to impregnate a long-term patient, Sarah Depoian, aged 73.
In 1979, Depoian and her husband sought the fertility doctor’s help for intrauterine insemination.
According to Depoian, Berger assured them that the sperm used would be from an anonymous donor resembling her husband, someone unknown to her and her husband.
However, a lawsuit reported by Sky News revealed that a home DNA test contradicted these claims.
Expressing her dismay, the patient stated that Berger had breached the trust they placed in him.
She emphasized, “We fully trusted Dr. Berger. It’s hard to imagine not trusting your own doctor.”
“We never dreamt he would abuse his position of trust and perpetrate this extreme violation. I am struggling to process it,” Depoian added.
According to the report, Berger is the founder of a major fertility clinic situated in Boston, United States.
