A woman in Sepulpa, Oklahoma, is reeling after discovering her tiny home and land were stolen in the middle of the night.
According to DailyMail, Monica Badzinski, who had purchased the home and 10 acres of land in 2022 to pursue her dream of sustainable living, was shocked to learn that her entire property had vanished overnight.
Badzinski’s neighbor alerted her to the theft on November 12, after noticing the gate to her property was wide open and the home was gone.
The neighbor, who had security cameras, reported seeing four men in a UTV and a pickup truck.
According to Badzinski, the men used a saw to cut through the lock on her gate, before cutting the straps and electrical connections on the tiny house, ultimately taking it away.
“The footage shows the thieves cut the straps to my home and the electrical,” Badzinski said, describing the scene. “All that’s left now are broken cinder blocks, wires, and crushed cables on the slab.”
Badzinski explained that the tiny home, which she had been fighting to keep after discovering it had not been properly inspected for safety, was meant to be her peaceful, sustainable living space.
However, she soon learned that an inspection company had told her it was likely unsafe to live in. In response, she sought legal counsel and was advised to sell the home, a process that has now become even more complicated due to its theft.
“It’s unbelievable, especially since I’ve been fighting this battle with the builders, and now this happens,” she said. “It’s heartbreaking.”
Despite the loss, Badzinski remains hopeful that the home has not traveled far. She believes the tiny house is still somewhere within the local community, as UTVs typically cannot travel long distances.
In an effort to track it down, Badzinski has begun distributing flyers and speaking with neighbors, offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the recovery of her property or the identification of the thieves.
“I’m doing everything I can to get this tiny home back,” she said, determined to recover what was stolen.
