A Chief Magistrate Court located in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced one ‘Professor’ Jide Josiah Jisos to six months in prison for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
This information was released in a statement by the spokesman for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday.
The incident took place when officials from JAMB were conducting monitoring duties at Brix Academy in Abuja during the 2019 UTME.
Jisos reportedly approached the examination officials, presenting himself as a representative of a Non-Governmental Organization and claiming he was there to oversee the examination process.
However, his pretense was short-lived. The leader of the monitoring team grew suspicious and interrogated him, which led to the exposure of his deception.
Unable to provide evidence of his claims, Jisos was promptly arrested and handed over to security personnel for further investigation.
During questioning, Jisos admitted that he had no affiliation with any NGO and revealed that his primary motive for being in the examination hall was to assist his daughter, who was a candidate taking the UTME that year.
After a thorough investigation, Jisos was convicted on October 24, 2024. Chief Magistrate Justice Folashade Oyekan found him guilty of a single count of impersonation. He was sentenced to six months in prison but was given an option to pay a fine of N100,000 to avoid incarceration.
This case underscores the vigilance of JAMB officials in maintaining the integrity of the examination process and the serious consequences of attempting to deceive them.
