The student of Lead British International School Abuja, Maryam Hassan, has apologised for bullying her fellow student, Namtira Bwala.
In the widely circulated video, Hassan was caught in camera ibullying her colleague, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for justice.
This development had parked outrage on Tuesday as Nigerians called out the school and called for her expulsion from the school.
The video had caught the attention of the Federal Government as the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, visited the school.
During her visit, the school administrator announced that the private school would be shut down for three days.
Meanwhile, shortly after the minister’s visit, a video of Maryam emerged on social media. In the video, she was seen apologising to Namtira and Nigerians.
In her apology, Hassan expressed remorse for her actions and extended apologies to all those affected by the incident.
She equally admitted that she wished the incident never happened.
“I am sincerely sorry for what I did. I am also apologising to people outside, I am sincerely sorry, I wish this never happened,” she said.
The school management had in response to the incident announced the launch of a thorough investigation into the matter.
“The school management is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness,”Abraham Ogunkambi, the Head of School, asserted.
He went further that the school has already been in contact with the victim and her parents, offering support and counseling services to help them manage the emotional and psychological effects of the incident.
