The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria secured their first victory in the WAFU B U-17 Championship held in Ghana, narrowly defeating the Niger Republic 1-0 at the University Stadium in Accra.
The decisive goal came from Rapha Adams in the 31st minute.
Despite being reduced to ten men after Chibuike Okorie received a red card three minutes past the hour mark, the Golden Eaglets held on to their lead.
With this win, Manu Garba’s team climbed to second place in Group B, amassing four points from two matches.
Burkina Faso leads the group with an equal number of points but boasts a superior goal difference, having triumphed over Togo earlier that day.
The Niger Republic is in third place with three points.
The Golden Eaglets are set to face Togo, who have already been eliminated, in their final group match on Wednesday. A draw in this game would be sufficient for Nigeria to advance to the semi-finals.
