The Warri-Itakpe Train Services is expected to resume operations on Monday, April 24, 2023.
According to The PUNCH, this was disclosed by the Station Manager, Helma Sani, to journalists in Abuja on Monday.
He said, “We are resuming operation on Monday 24/4/2023.”
PUNCH METRO reported that in January 2023, a train traveling along the Warri-Itakpe route experienced a derailment within the Kogi forest, resulting in the endangerment of 148 passengers and 38 crew members. The incident led to the passengers being stranded.
According to reports, a considerable number of passengers deserted the train due to apprehensions of being abducted.
It was gathered that the train departed from Warri in the early hours of Sunday and experienced a derailment at approximately midday within the woodland area situated between Ajaokuta and Itakpe.
While the Delta and Kogi State police commands did not yet verified the occurrence, the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, confirmation of the event.
