Benin Republic clinched a 1-0 victory against Rwanda in their third Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers held in Abidjan on Thursday.
Douko Dodo emerged as the match-winner for Benin Republic, netting a decisive goal in the 37th minute, which marked the team’s first triumph in the qualifying series.
Prior to this match, Benin Republic had endured a winless streak of eight games, comprising four losses and four draws.
The win propelled Gernot Rohr’s squad from the bottom to second place in the standings with four points, while Rwanda, also on four points, maintained their lead at the top.
Benin Republic’s next challenge is a formidable clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who are currently in fourth place.
This match is scheduled for Monday, June 10, also in Abidjan.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles aim to secure their first win of the qualifiers when they face South Africa in Uyo on Friday.
