The head coach of South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos, is set to reveal his final squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Zimbabwe on Thursday, May 30.
Earlier, on May 15, Broos announced a preliminary squad of 36 players for these crucial qualifiers.
Bafana Bafana will face the Super Eagles in Uyo on Friday, June 7, 2024, and will then host Zimbabwe at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
The squad features notable players such as Ronwen Williams, Themba Zwane, Percy Tau, Teboho Mokoena, and Khuliso Mudau, who all participated in the 2023 African Cup of Nations finals.
Orlando Pirates’ rising star Relebohile Mofokeng has been called up for the first time following his stellar performances at the club level. Additionally, Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch has received his first call-up.
According to Sowetan Live, Broos is expected to trim the squad down to 23 players for the qualifiers.
In Group C, Bafana Bafana currently sits in second place with three points, while the Super Eagles are in third place with two points.
The last encounter between these two teams was in the semi-finals of AFCON, where Nigeria triumphed 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
