Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke announced on Saturday that his administration has begun formulating plans to implement a new minimum wage for government workers in the state.
This declaration was made during the grand finale of the 14th convocation at Osun State University, which took place at the institution’s main campus in Osogbo.
In his address, Adeleke acknowledged the difficulties faced by workers due to the removal of fuel subsidies, emphasizing his commitment to alleviating these challenges for government employees.
“We have supported the university towards the construction of its ultra-modern Anatomy Complex which we commissioned earlier today,” he stated, highlighting his administration’s dedication to improving educational infrastructure.
The governor also mentioned ongoing projects, including the construction of access roads leading to student areas at Sasha Market and other university campuses.
He noted the administration’s proactive measures, saying, “We paid a year’s arrears promptly to the staff members. We have also paid palliative allowances to all workers, and we are currently working on the modalities for the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage.”
Adeleke encouraged university staff and students to maintain their commitment to their responsibilities, urging them to work with dedication for the nation’s progress.
“The progress of this citadel of learning can only be sustained through a peaceful and harmonious environment. Let us avoid unnecessary rancour and acrimony. Instead, focus on the common goal of advancing this great institution,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Clement Adebooye, echoed the governor’s sentiments, reporting on the institution’s steady growth.
He commended all stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to the advancement of the university, signaling a bright future for the institution amid ongoing efforts to enhance its offerings and infrastructure.
