The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party has urged the national leadership of the party to take decisive disciplinary action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, by invoking relevant provisions of the PDP Constitution and expelling him from the party.
This call was made on Sunday following the group’s weekly technical review meeting held in Abuja. Addressing journalists, the Protem National Coordinator of the CP-PDP, Barrister Obinna Nwachukwu, accused Wike of openly working against the interests of the PDP by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress, in clear violation of the party’s constitution.
“The FCT Minister has publicly aligned with the APC to pursue their victory in the 2026 FCT Council election and the 2027 Presidential election, in direct breach of Section 10(6) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which prohibits members from aligning with other parties to undermine the PDP,” Nwachukwu stated.
He argued that Wike’s repeated actions and statements in favour of the APC amount to a de facto defection and should be treated as such by the PDP’s leadership.
“By publicly declaring loyalty to the APC, Chief Wike has declared for the APC. He can no longer be deemed a member of the PDP,” he added.
Nwachukwu further cited Section 58 of the PDP Constitution, accusing the FCT Minister of persistently violating its provisions through his public attacks on the party and its leadership. He stressed that Wike’s conduct has not only eroded party discipline but also emboldened internal dissent.
The CP-PDP therefore called on the party’s National Working Committee to immediately apply Sections 29(2)(b) and 59(1) of the constitution to expel Wike, warning that failure to act decisively could further undermine the party’s unity and credibility.
“The delay in expelling Wike is now vexatious to loyal party members. The NWC must act decisively,” Nwachukwu said.
In a final directive, the group instructed all professionals within the PDP to sever any political ties with Wike and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the unity, strength, and stability of the party moving forward.
