Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the FCT Administration is committed to improving road infrastructure to unlock previously isolated communities within the territory.
Wike made this announcement on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony for a three-kilometre access road aimed at connecting communities near Plot 18, Giri District, Abuja.
The road will also serve the site of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Academy in the area.
According to the minister, the lack of roads and basic infrastructure has hindered the development of Giri District compared to other parts of Abuja.
He expressed confidence that the new access road would attract development to the region, stating, “With an access road, everybody will come and develop the area and that is what we are looking for. Some of you who own plots here will also benefit from the road when completed.”
Wike also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the ongoing infrastructure initiatives in the FCT, adding that the road project is one of several expected to be inaugurated during Tinubu’s second anniversary as president in May 2025.
Earlier, the acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mr. Richard Dauda, revealed that Levant Construction Ltd. was awarded the contract for the three-kilometre road.
He added that the project, which stretches from the Bill Clinton Interchange on the Airport Expressway to the EFCC academy site, is expected to be completed within nine months.
EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, expressed his appreciation to both President Tinubu and Wike, whom he referred to as a “bulldozer” for the road construction. Olukoyede, represented by the EFCC Secretary, Muhammad Hammajoda, noted, “You are our stakeholder and we are proud of you; thank you, thank you, and thank you.”
This project marks the third road initiative Wike has inaugurated in the past three days. Earlier in the week, he launched the construction of a 9.8-kilometre road from Kabusa to Takushara on Tuesday and a 10.5-kilometre road from Kabusa to Ketti on Wednesday.
