Some Federal civil servants have confirmed the payment of the N35,000 wage award under the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure, our correspondent has learnt.
According to The PUNCH, some of the interviewed civil servants confirmed receiving credit alerts on Tuesday.
A civil servant who pleaded anonymous verified that they have only received payment for the month of September, falling short of the two months’ payment they were promised.
The source said, “Yes I did receive it. I saw the alert about 15 minutes ago. I think it is for September because the alert indicated September.”
Another civil servant said ,”Yes, I have seen mine too but we are expecting to see another alert because the President said it would start from September so maybe another one will come which will read October.”
Recall that President Bola Tinubu granted a provisional wage increase of N35,000 to all Federal Government employees paid from the treasury. This wage adjustment is designed to be in effect for a duration of six months.
The decision to implement this wage change stemmed from a meeting that took place between representatives of the Federal Government and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.
This meeting was convened with the primary objective of averting the planned nationwide strike by the unions, which was intended to protest against the removal of subsidies.
On Monday, the Federal Executive Council gave its approval for a supplementary budget of N2.12 trillion, ensuring that budgetary allocations are appropriately adjusted to accommodate this wage increase and other necessary expenditures.
