Super Falcons Defender, Michelle Alozie, has assured Nigerians of victory in their knockout game with England on Monday, August 7.
Alozie, who is termed one of the favorites of the players in the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand, gave this assurance during an interview with NFF TV on Saturday.
While fielding questions about being a favorite of the Nigerian supporters, Alozie responded by saying, “I guess it’s pretty cool, I feel like I don’t really notice. I’m here just for the World Cup and I think everything is going back to being Nigerian and I just have the pride, the passion and the fire and I just bring that to everything I do on or off the field and the team just really brings it out the type of player I am”.
Concerning being in a “group of death” during the group stage, she said, “I always have faith with us. I think we already played some top teams before we came to the World Cup and we got a few results and I think that only grew as we came into the group stage. Although, we had the “group of death” but I don’t think that really faced us and we were just really focused on each game as it came”.
When asked about her expectations from the game, she said, “It’s going to be a hard game, we’ve had a hard game since the beginning of the tournament starting with Canada, so we obviously expect nothing less.
“It’s really a knockout round so it’s going to take all. We’re ready to put up a battle, we’re ready to expect a battle from them and just give them everything that we have.”
Talking about the inspiration for the different kinds of boot she wears, Alozie said, “I got my inspiration from Mario Balotelli, he’s my favorite player and I watched him a lot when I was growing up. He did it in the 2014 World Cup and so I just did it”.
The Super Falcons were started the tournament in a strong group, termed the “group of death”, comprising of Canada, Australia, Nigeria and Republic of Ireland.
Winning 3-2 against Australia and drawing with both Canada and Ireland, the Falcons were able to scale through the group stage into the Round of 16.
If they win against England on Monday, they would proceed to the Quarter Finals round.
