The Super Falcons of Nigeria will face England in the round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria finished second behind Australia in Group B after an impressive run that saw them pick two draws and one win to finish with five points.
The Lionesses defeated China 1-6 the following day to seal their clash with Coach Randy Waldrum led side.
The defending European champions, England, won Group D with nine points, followed by Denmark with six points for second place in the log.
The Super Falcons will be taking on the Lionesses on Monday, August 7th, 2023 at the Australian Stadium in Sydney.
Waldrum’s women could have finished as group winners if they had won their last game against Ireland, but they could only manage draw.
The team’s coach, Randy Waldrum has expressed his optimism that the Super Falcons will give their best to ensure that they emerge victorious.
While reacting to the tie, he said, “I don’t think anybody believed when we got here that we will get out of this group and go through without losing a match in the group so I’m proud and happy for them.
“We’ve already played the Olympics Gold medalist, the host nation so it (playing European Champions- England) is just going to be one like those other matches we’ve played in,’ he stated.
