Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has ordered the immediate freezing of all state and Local Government accounts.
This was announced in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, noting that no imprest or any form of payment should be made to anyone from government accounts henceforth.
The statement read, “All Standing Orders and Investment Instructions are hereby Cancelled forthwith.
“All Kogi State and Local Government Accounts are hereby frozen with effect from today, Thursday 22nd November 2003.”
The unexpected action for such a comprehensive financial stoppage is unclear, however, it might not be unconnected with the winding down of the Bello-lead administration.
Bello is expected to vacate office on January 27, 2024, when the governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo, will be sworn in as the next governor of the north-central state.
