The new Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Idris Abubakar, has banned the sale and use of fireworks or fire-crackers within the territory, especially during the yulitide.
The CP, who was appointed some days ago, felicitated with residents of the territory as families and friends gather for the Christmas and new year celebrations, according to Daily Post.
However, in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, the CP also banned the sales and use of all kinds of fireworks, fire-crackers, and knockouts in the FCT, as a security measure to ensuring peace within this season.
Adeh noted that the order was part of a proactive move by the Police to sustain relative peace in the FCT and adequately contain crimes and criminality, particularly, the ones peculiar to the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Adeh said, “Following the ban, the CP has deployed both covert and overt security apparatus to ensure residents of the FCT enjoy the yuletide season in a relatively calm environment.
“He further ordered all Divisional Police Officers and heads of police units within the FCT to carry out due enforcement of the ban and ensure that anyone who violates the order is arrested and brought to book.”
