The Zamfara State Government has approved the immediate implementation of N30,000 minimum wage for workers in the State.
Deputy Governor Hassan Nasiha made the pledge Tuesday afternoon when he received a Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Nigeria Labour Congress.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by Mr Babangida Umar, the Director-General of Press Affairs who represented the Nasiha while receiving the agreement and copies of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the government and trade unions in the state.
According to the deputy governor, the labour unions have shown maturity and understanding by enduring the negotiation and engagement with government officials.
”Their understanding led to the amicable resolutions to implement the N30,000 minimum wage in November.
”The current economic situation and the lingering security challenges are among factors government considered before agreeing to implement the new wage,” he said.
He also expressed commendation to the Amb Bashir Yuguda-led committee that represented the government in reaching an amicable resolution with the trade unions.
In response to the Deputy Governor’s remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labor Congress, Mr Sani Halilu, representing the labour unions, thanked the state government for accepting to implement the new wage for its workers.
The Chairman also commended the workers for supporting the unions during the struggle for the wage increase.
