The Zamfara State Police Command has launched an investigation into the dead of a pregnant woman who was declared missing by her husband, Yahaya Maimagani on Thursday in Tsafe town, Local Government area in Zamfara State, who was found on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Mrs Naja’atu Abdullahi Umar was declared missing on Thursday, September 7, after she went out for a hair braiding in Tsafe town.
It was learnt that a family source told journalists that her corpse will be buried according to Islamic rites this afternoon.
“It was finally believed that she might have been kidnapped because, on that day, kidnappers stormed their area located on the outskirts of the town behind the College of Health Technology, Tsafe. Her husband and relatives then resolved to wait for a call from her abductors but no one was contacted as of early morning of today.
“Suddenly this afternoon, a woman passing by around the area sensed an irritating smell. When she checked, she discovered a dead human body! She quickly ran and alerted the people around the area.
“Finally it was discovered a dead body of Naja’atu with many cuts and injuries around her body. Unfortunately, she was pregnant because she got married few months ago,” the source lamented.
It was gathered that late Najaatu went into the town, Tsafe, with the belief of braiding her hair in the afternoon of the Thursday, but could not come back to her matrimonial house alive.
Contacted, Zamfara State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying that the Police is investigating the matter.
“We (Nigerian Police) received the report. We don’t know the cause of her death but we commenced an investigation,” ASP Yazid added.
