The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal has recruited 200 Civilian Joint Task Force in each of the 14 Local Councils to complement efforts of security agencies to tackle terrorism in the state.
According to the Guardian, this was made known in a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, on Tuesday, saying that the council also approved classroom construction, renovation and furnishing as part of the government’s commitment to education.
The recruitment of civilian fighters was among the critical issues deliberated at the State Executive Council meeting, at Government House, Gusau, recently, chaired by the governor.
The statement read, “In his commitment to curb the lingering insecurity, Governor Lawal has approved the recruitment of CJTF in all local councils of the state.
“While presiding over the SEC meeting, the governor also approved the construction of new sets of classrooms, renovation and furnishing of existing ones across the 14 councils of the state.
It was gathered that the councils discuss the insecurity and deteriorating condition of educational facilities in the state; hence, it approved the recruitment of CJTF to complement the effort of the military and police.
Lawal explained that 200 CJTF would be recruited in each local council of the state, noting that the recruits would undergo rigorous physical training that would prepare them to assist security agencies with actionable intelligence to combat insecurity.
“Governor Lawal believes that education is a fundamental right for all citizens. His government is committed to ensuring that every Zamfara child can access quality education.
“The government will construct, renovate and furnish 49 classrooms in Gusau, 11 in Anka, 15 in Bakura, eight in Bukkuyum, 14 in BirninMagaji, eight in Bungudu, eight in Gummi, 19 in Kaura, eight in Maru, 11 in Maradun, 42 in Shinkafi, eight in TalataMafara, 27 in Tsafe and 11 in Zurmi,” Idris added.
