A bill creating the Anti-thuggery Agency has been signed into law by Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.
This was said in a statement made on Sunday in Gusau by the governor’s press secretary, Jamilu Iliyasu.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Matawalle established a committee in February 2022 to address thuggery, drug abuse, and other associated offenses in the state.
Matawalle later submitted a bill to the state House of Assembly, which was approved by the legislators, to create the state anti-thuggery agency.
He said that his government created the organization to support security authorities’ efforts to reduce thuggery-related incidents in the state.
In order to create a more moral society, he continued, the agency will also aid in instilling moral values in young people.
The statement said that the governor also agreed to the modified bill establishing the state Area Development Councils.
According to him, the area development councils were established to improve local development and meet the objectives of the electorate by bringing people closer to the government.
The governor hailed the Assembly for approving the two bills and for working with the administration to secure the state’s overall development.
