Troops of Nigeria Army have killed 12 terrorists and recovered many arms and ammunition in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Director, Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, stated this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the troops also destroyed the terrorists enclave during the operation that was conducted on Monday, April 15.
Nwachukwu explained that the troops equally recovered 10 motorbikes used for mobility by the terrorists, and 18 rustled cows.
He said the troops, while acting on “credible intelligence on the activities of the terrorists” conducted a “targeted clearance operation” to dismantle the terrorists’ operational base in Maru town.
“In a fierce gun battle with the terrorists, the gallant troops neutralized 12 of the terrorists, compelling the others to flee. The troops also recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and two locally fabricated guns. The troops destroyed the terrorists’ base after dislodging them,” he said.
The army spokesperson disclosed that the operation was one of the significant breakthroughs in the counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations in the northwest.
“The successful operation is a testament to the dedication of our troops in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of our citizens and will continue to take decisive action to curb terrorists’ activities in the region,” he said.
