Barcelona have snapped their three-game winless streak in La Liga with a commanding 5-1 victory over Mallorca at Son Moix on Tuesday evening.
The Catalans were in control from start to finish, overcoming a spirited Mallorca side that held their own for the first 70 minutes before Barça’s relentless attack broke through.
The victory not only secured three crucial points but also ensured they remain atop the league standings for another week, delivering their most cohesive performance in over a month.
The match began with Mallorca showing great intensity, pressing high and finding dangerous spaces early on.
However, Barcelona’s well-executed offside trap kept the hosts from creating any clear chances. Gradually, Barça began to assert control, dominating possession and dictating the tempo. Their patience paid off when a defensive error gifted Ferran Torres an easy opening goal, providing an early advantage.
Buoyed by the lead, Barcelona played with more confidence, particularly on the left flank, where Alejandro Balde and Raphinha combined effectively.
Despite their dominance, inefficiency in front of goal continued to plague them. Ferran was particularly wasteful, while Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal struggled with decision-making in the final third, squandering promising opportunities.
Mallorca, persistent in their counter-attacks, finally capitalized on a lapse in concentration from Barça. In the 43rd minute, Pablo Maffeo timed his run perfectly to break the offside trap, setting up Vedat Muriqi for a simple tap-in to level the score against the run of play.
Just before the break, Raphinha missed a golden opportunity to restore Barça’s lead, leaving the game finely poised at 1-1 as the teams headed into the locker room.
Barcelona resumed control in the second half and were rewarded when Yamal won a penalty, which Raphinha coolly converted to make it 2-1.
Mallorca responded with renewed energy but found it difficult to break down a disciplined Barça defense, continually thwarted by the offside trap.
The floodgates opened in the final 20 minutes. Yamal’s brilliance set up Raphinha for his second goal, followed by a stunning impact from substitute Frenkie de Jong, who scored his first of the season.
De Jong then turned provider, assisting Pau Víctor, another substitute, who added Barça’s fifth goal. Yamal nearly added a sixth in the dying moments but missed a one-on-one chance, capping off an exhilarating display from the visitors.
This emphatic win, especially on the road against a tough Mallorca side, showcased Barcelona’s dominance and efficiency, particularly in the second half.
For the first time in weeks, they looked like a well-oiled machine, a sight that will surely please their fans and coach alike.
