World football’s governing body, FIFA, has imposed a stringent transfer ban on Russian Premier League giants CSKA Moscow over Super Eagles star unpaid transfer fee.
This disciplinary action comes after the club failed to settle the remaining balance of €3 million owed to Dutch side SC Heerenveen for the transfer of Nigerian international winger Chidera Ejuke.
The ban, which will last until mid-2026, could be lifted if the outstanding amount is paid promptly.
The conflict stems from Ejuke’s high-profile transfer in the summer of 2020, which saw the talented Super Eagles winger leave Heerenveen for CSKA Moscow.
The two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of €11.3 million for the deal. However, while a substantial portion of the payment was made, the remaining €3 million has remained unpaid, sparking a financial dispute between the clubs.
After unsuccessful attempts to recover the funds, SC Heerenveen escalated the matter to FIFA.
Following a detailed review, FIFA ruled in favor of the Dutch club and imposed the punitive transfer ban on CSKA Moscow.
FIFA has stated that the ban will remain in effect until the debt is fully settled, effectively barring the Russian side from registering new players for the next two years.
Chidera Ejuke, who has since become a key player for CSKA Moscow, has also enjoyed loan spells, including a stint with Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.
Despite his contributions on the pitch, the unresolved financial issues surrounding his transfer continue to cast a shadow over the deal.
This ruling serves as a strong reminder of FIFA’s commitment to ensuring compliance with financial agreements in international football.
