The Lagos State Government has shut down the Alaba International Market, and Ojo market over their poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offences.
This was stated though a tweet by the commissioner of environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Monday.
“Alaba International Market, Ojo has been sealed up for poor waste disposal practices, failure to pay their waste bills and gross environmental sanitation offences”, he tweeted.
While reacting to the development, a tweep identified as @ Jay tweeted, “I love this ! going from Market to Market, it’s surprising to see other Markets are not taking proactive measures to avoid being closed”.
Another tweep @Guyman, tweeted, “Some Nigerians can be somehow, you see other market being sealed for one particular reason “poor waste disposal practice” and you wait and do nothing until they come sealed your market too.
“This “I don’t care” attitude need to change if we want this country to progress.”
While @Olumuyiwa, tweeted, “If not for senseless affront,u heard markets as Oyingbo,Mile 12,Ladipo,Owode Onirin, were all closed because of environmental infringement, yet Alaba Market management see no reason in cleaning the market…The market should remain closed until the cleaning standard are met”
