In a bid to ensure a secure and incident-free Eid el-Fitr celebration, the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1,500 personnel across the state.
The directive, issued by the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and implemented by the Oyo State Commandant, Augustine Padonu, mandates a comprehensive security plan to protect lives and critical infrastructure during the festivities.
According to a statement by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer, Samuel Olubanjo Opebiyi, security operatives will be stationed at strategic locations, including prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, recreational centers, mosques, and other high-traffic areas. The initiative aims to prevent criminal activities and maintain public order.
Specialized units, including the Disaster Management Unit, Counter Terrorist Unit, Agro-Rangers, and the Anti-Vandalism Unit, have been mobilized to handle potential security threats.
The NSCDC will also work closely with other security agencies to strengthen emergency response and ensure a unified approach to public safety.
Speaking on the deployment, Commandant Padonu reassured residents of the corps’ commitment to providing a safe environment for all during the celebration.
“Our commitment is to provide a secure environment for all residents and visitors during this important festive period. We urge the public to cooperate with our personnel and remain vigilant. This joint effort with other security agencies is crucial in ensuring that the celebrations proceed without any disruptions,” he stated.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to security personnel to facilitate a smooth and peaceful Eid al-Fitr celebration.
