The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has cautioned the public, particularly youth groups and hiking enthusiasts, against embarking on outdoor activities such as camping and hiking without prior notification to security agencies.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, highlighted the security risks associated with venturing into remote and unsecured areas without law enforcement awareness.
“The FCT Police Command advises members of the public, especially youth groups, organizations, and hiking enthusiasts, to take necessary precautions before engaging in camping and hiking activities,” said Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson.
She further noted, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, stresses that organizers must inform the police before embarking on such activities. Failure to do so poses significant security risks, as remote locations are often vulnerable to criminal activities.”
Adewale also emphasized the importance of coordinating with law enforcement to ensure safety measures are in place.
“The Command urges organizers to liaise with the police to obtain guidance on safe routes and ensure all participants are accounted for throughout the activity,” he said.
He added that proper communication with security personnel before and during these excursions could help mitigate risks and improve emergency response.
Residents were also encouraged to report any suspicious activities and seek security assistance when necessary. The FCT Police Command provided emergency contact numbers for the public: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
