The Kogi State Government has strongly criticized the recent attack on Muritala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in the state, which occurred at the Supreme Court shortly after the court’s ruling on electoral cases involving the Governors of Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states.
According to The PUNCH, in a statement released on Sunday, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the incident, calling it “unwarranted” and stating that it should not have taken place.
The statement also included remarks from Governor Ahmed Ododo, who labeled the actions of the attackers as “barbaric, uncivilised, and a grave danger to the institution of justice.”
Ododo called on Nigerians to avoid taking matters into their own hands.
“As a government, we implore the law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators and make them face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others as well as protect the integrity and safety of our court environments across the country,” the governor stated.
He further urged Nigerians to support the principles of constitutionalism and unity, which he identified as central to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, and to back the President’s policies and values for the advancement and growth of the nation.
