A 20-year-old Zoology student from Lagos State University, Mautin Peter, has been crowned the winner of the beauty queen contest at the Badagry Social Media Awards.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Rachael Hungbo emerged as the first runner-up, while Maudo Ramoni secured the position of second runner-up in the keenly contested event.
After her victory, Peter expressed her commitment to leveraging her new platform for meaningful initiatives in the Badagry community.
“Winning anything is exhilarating. I plan to use this opportunity to educate young girls in secondary schools in Badagry on the menace of early pregnancy,” she stated. “I will also use this to promote tourism development in Badagry.”
In the professional category, Alexander Senayon, a solicitor, was recognized with the Best Professional Award for his exemplary use of social media, which he attributed to his outstanding online track record.
The event organizer, Sewhude Akande, highlighted the purpose of the awards as a means to acknowledge and inspire young talents in Badagry who are excelling in various fields.
“The award is to celebrate young Badagrians who are using social media to promote the community and expand their businesses and brand themselves,” Akande explained. “BSMA is to give directions, open the eyes of young people and the community at large on the power of social media and how it is being used for individual development.”
He also extended his gratitude to all those who supported the successful execution of the event.
Special recognition awards were presented to notable figures, including Bonu Solomon, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency 1, for his outstanding contributions to the area’s development.
Additionally, Olusegun Onilude, Chairman of Badagry Local Government, was honored for his efforts in driving infrastructural progress within the town.
The event also saw numerous awards given to Badagry youths for their remarkable efforts in using social media to transform and promote the community.
