The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has assured residents of robust security measures during the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel across the FCT and its environs to ensure public safety and the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Monica Ojobi, the Command’s spokesperson, Odumosu outlined that the officers were drawn from various specialized units, including the Special Intervention Squad, Special Female Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Arm Squad, Agro Rangers, Special Protection Unit, Intelligence Unit, and the Operations Department.
These teams have been tasked with upholding peace and order throughout the celebrations.
Highlighting the importance of vigilance, Odumosu urged personnel to strictly adhere to the operation order while focusing on safeguarding critical infrastructure, worship centres, recreational areas, markets, malls, bus terminals, and other key locations in the city.
He also issued a stern warning to those planning to exploit the festive period for criminal activities, stressing that the Corps is fully prepared to prevent any breaches of security.
“We are aware of the peculiarities of crime perpetrated by criminals in this type of season, and we are ready to curtail any security breaches. Those who may want to take advantage of the festive period to undermine the government’s efforts by committing a crime against the state and residents of the FCT are advised to have a rethink,” Odumosu declared.
The Commandant further emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to 24-hour patrols and surveillance to protect public assets and deter vandals and scavengers.
“We will not rest until we ensure the safety of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in the FCT,” he added.
Odumosu also called for collaboration among personnel and seamless synergy with other security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police, to guarantee the operation’s success.
He advised armed officers to exercise caution in using their firearms, warning that any misuse would result in strict disciplinary action.
Urging residents to celebrate responsibly, Odumosu encouraged them to report suspicious activities promptly and assured them of their safety during the holidays.
“Remain vigilant, celebrate in moderation, and go about your activities without fear,” he concluded.
